We firmly and solemnly resolve to provide for ourselves a constitution and to be governed by its provisions, ensuring the highest standards in the naturopathic profession.

Practitioner-Patient Relationship

Naturopathic practitioners work collaboratively with patients to develop personalized treatment plans. They educate patients on healthy lifestyle choices and natural therapies, providing ongoing support and guidance throughout their health journey.

While naturopathic medicine can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine, it's essential to consult with a licensed healthcare professional before starting any new therapies or treatments.

Training & Professional Standards

Patient Care

Educational & Training Standards

  • Duration: A four-year, full-time program in an accredited school of Naturopathic Medicine (minimum 4,400 hours).
  • Prerequisites: Three years of pre-medical sciences at a university (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Introductory Psychology, Humanities) with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a four-point scale.
  • Curriculum: Covers basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, pathology), clinical disciplines (diagnosis, radiology), and naturopathic disciplines (nutrition, botanical medicine, TCM, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, manipulation, lifestyle counseling).
  • Clinical Experience: Minimum of 1,500 hours of supervised clinical experience.
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Minimum 30 CPD credits annually.

Accreditation & Licensure

  • Accreditation: Accredited naturopathic medical schools are recognized by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME) and the Nigeria Department of Education.
  • Licensure: Graduates must pass the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX) to become licensed practitioners.
  • Mandatory Membership: Mandatory ANDN membership and annual registration for licensure and practice in Nigeria.

Practice Standards & Ethical Conduct

ANDN promotes comprehensive patient assessment, evidence-informed diagnosis, clear documentation, and safe integration with conventional care.

Ethical conduct includes informed consent, transparent communication, avoiding misrepresentation, and maintaining professional boundaries.
